Is Local Testing for Brazil Type Approval Mandatory

Understanding the entire process of local testing for Brazil type approval is crucial for manufacturers. This is one of the necessary steps in the ANATEL certification process.

Local testing for Brazil type approval is mandated by Brazil’s National Telecommunications Agency. This agency is known as ANATEL, which stands for “Agência Nacional de Telecomunicações” in Portuguese. It is this agency that sets all certification requirements.

Safety and quality standards for telecommunications products are ensured through this testing. This article will provide everything you need to know about local testing for Brazil type approval.

Local testing for RF Type Approval

Applying for Radio Frequency (RF) type approval involves several steps. There are three commonly used methods: local testing, paperwork, and a combination of the two.

Each country’s regulatory authority has its own policies regarding which method to use. Some countries offer the option to choose between these three methods, while others require only one of them.

Brazil is one of the countries that requires a combination of local testing and documentation. Therefore, local testing must be conducted at a local laboratory.

This process requires samples to be submitted by the applicant for Brazil type approval. The number of samples will depend on the type of device and the type of testing performed.

Local Testing for Brazil Type Approval

Local testing for Brazil type approval is a mandatory requirement. This process is conducted after the evaluation documents have been submitted.

At this stage, the authorities will determine which tests require local testing to meet Brazilian standards. Whether the tests involve Radio Frequency (RF), Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC), or safety will depend on the results of existing international laboratory tests.

Due to differences in standards, applicants cannot fully rely on test reports obtained from international testing laboratories. Generally, applicants only need to provide one test report among the three mentioned tests.

The remaining tests will be conducted at a local Brazilian laboratory. Local testing requires samples to be submitted.

The quantity and type of samples will depend on the laboratory’s analysis of the submitted documents. Laboratories also have their own policies regarding sample requirements.

For this information, we always communicate with the laboratory. This is because each product will have different requirements.

1. Document Requirements

Before conducting local testing for Brazil type approval, you must submit documents for evaluation. These documents must be submitted to ANATEL before the test samples are submitted.

The following are the document requirements for Brazil type approval:

  7. Internal and external photos,
  8. Schematics/diagrams
  9. Valid ISO 9001 certificate of the manufacturing site, issued in Portuguese or accompanied by a sworn (certified) translation into Portuguese

2. Testing Laboratory Requirements

Local testing for Brazil type approval is conducted by ANATEL-accredited laboratories (OCD-accredited laboratories). Designated Certification Bodies or Organismo de Certificação Designado (OCDs) are legally established technical bodies that, by delegation from ANATEL.

This body is authorized to conduct conformity assessment procedures for telecommunications products within the scope of mandatory certification and to issue the corresponding certificates of conformity.

Pre-testing Testing to Avoid Failure

Local testing for Brazil type approval requires that submitted samples meet all required testing parameters. To prevent losses and delays in the certification process, you need to avoid failure during the lab testing process.

The way to avoid this is by conducting pre-testing. Partnering with Dimulti will assist you in this process. We provide pre-testing services for every product undergoing RF testing.

Pre-testing ensures compliance with the destination country’s technical standards. Even if issues arise, you can immediately identify areas requiring correction to ensure compliance with technical standards.

We prioritize transparency; you can monitor the pre-testing process directly via teleconference. This also streamlines our process, particularly regarding product Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
