Applicant for Malaysia Type Approval

If you read Document eTAC/DOC/01-1.1, Section 3.3 above, it is clear that parties are allowed to become applicant for Malaysia type approval. Applicants are entities registered in Malaysia with a valid ROC (Company Registration) or ROB (Business Registration) number.
This registration number is managed by the Malaysian Companies Commission (SSM). Companies are divided into five categories: manufacturer, assembler, importer, network operator/service provider, and authorized consultant.
Manufacturer
The first category is original manufacturers registered in Malaysia. This is specifically for local companies that assemble domestic telecommunications and wireless products.
Assembler
Assemblers are companies that assemble telecommunications and wireless products under the trade name of a foreign company. They can be applicants for foreign brands to market their products in Malaysia.
Importer
Importers are parties responsible for importing goods from brand owners to Malaysia. They also handle customs and taxes on goods to be traded.
Network operator/service provider
Type approval is a mandatory requirement for all communication products, including those used by network operators/service providers. Before they can be sold and/or used in Malaysia, they can apply directly.
Authorized consultant
An authorized consultant is a compliance agent who can act as a representative of a foreign company. They can be the applicant for Malaysia type approval and at the same time be responsible for the application process.
Why is Applicant Status Important?
The examination of applicant for Malaysia type approval is conducted at an early stage after all application documents are complete. This should not be overlooked, as many applications are rejected due to the applicant’s status being unsuitable or documents being incomplete.
This preparation also includes appointing a management representative who will be responsible for the Malaysian type approval application. This person will automatically become the company account administrator. This includes registering the company in the Online Certification System for Communication and Multimedia Equipment (e-ComM).
This person is also responsible for managing users, consultants, or agents, as well as being responsible for their activities on behalf of the Applicant. The Management Representative will be the point of contact between the company and SIRIM.
Companies are advised to consolidate all document requirements for Malaysian type approval from the outset. If you do not yet understand the entire process, you can start by understanding the basics of Malaysian type approval to get a broader context.
