Many countries generally require labeling. What about the label requirements for Mexico type approval?

In Mexico, there are two types of certification for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) products: NOM and CRT. Both have different label requirements for type approval in Mexico.

In addition to meeting compliance requirements, labeling requirements provide consumers with confidence in the safety and legality of your products. This article will explain the label requirements for Mexico type approval.

Differences Between Certification Scheme and Label Requirements

Before understanding the label requirements for Mexico type approval, you need to understand that there are two types of certification used for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) products in Mexico.

These certifications are NOM and CRT, both regulated by different bodies. Normas Oficiales Mexicanas (NOM) is a mandatory certification scheme for all telecommunications products intended for marketing and use in Mexico. This certification is issued by an accredited certification body (CB).

Comisión Reguladora de Telecomunicaciones (CRT), formerly known as the Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT). The CRT is an agency under the Federal Gazette (DOF). This agency was formed from the National Antimonopoly Commission (CNA) and the Agency for Digital Transformation and Telecommunications (ATDT).

CRT certification is an additional requirement for telecommunications devices with RF features. Therefore, devices with RF features need to apply for two certifications: NOM and CRT.

Both certifications require labeling after the certificate is issued. The only difference is the installation requirements, as they each have different logos.

Regulation in Mexico

Understanding the labeling requirements for Mexico type approval is closely tied to the regulations governing it. For CRTs, these are outlined in the Lineamientos para el uso del Sello IFT en productos, equipos, dispositivos o aparatos destinados a T o R, or in English, “Guidelines for the use of the IFT Seal on products, equipment, devices, or apparatus intended for T or R.”

These regulations address components, coloring, dimensions, and placement. This is covered in chapters three through five.

Label Requirements for Mexico Type Approval

Label requirements for Mexico type approval in NOM and CRT certifications are a must. However, each has specific requirements regarding its placement. There are differences in the components, size, and placement of the two logos.

1. NOM Label

The NOM label consists of several information components. The following information must be included on the NOM label:

Manufacturer information

Brand

Model name

Product description in Spanish

Electrical rating

Country of origin

NOM mark

CB logo if required (In the example, it is NYCE)

Here is an example of a NOM label:

The NOM label can be affixed directly to the product or applied as a sticker. There are no size requirements for the NOM label as long as the required information is clearly visible

2. CRT Label

Currently, CRT is still in the process of transitioning from IFT, so no specific requirements have been established yet. Label requirements may vary, but they will likely be based on the previous IFT label.

The previous IFT label consisted of several components: the IFT logo, the text “IFT,” and the certificate number.

IFT logo and “IFT” text: Indicates that CRT (IFT) has officially verified the product.

Certificate number: The official certificate number issued by CRT (IFT). It may be arranged vertically or horizontally.

The IFT seal must be printed, digitized, or reproduced in 100% positive black or 100% negative black, taking into account the protected area and minimum dimensions for printing, digitization, or reproduction.

The following is an example of an IFT label:

The IFT label must be displayed on the product, its box, or its packaging. If the product is too small, it may be displayed electronically or in the user manual.

3. Combined labels

For telecommunications devices with RF features, both the NOM and CRT (IFT) labels must be displayed simultaneously. The requirements are in accordance with the respective provisions on each label.

Here’s an example:

The Relationship Between Labels and Validity

The validity period of Mexico type approval for NOM and CRT certification differs. NOM is valid for one year. CRT, on the other hand, does not have an expiration date.

Although NOM is valid for only one year, there is no certificate number listed on the label, so any renewal of the certificate will not affect it.

However, for CRT certification, if there are changes to the technical information and model of the device, it must undergo recertification. This means that the old product can no longer be marketed, and the label with the old certificate number is no longer valid.

This information covers the label requirements for Mexico type approval. There are differences in label requirements for NOM and CRT certification. NOM has many components that must be displayed, but there are no requirements regarding label size.

CRT, on the other hand, has quite strict requirements for components, size, color, and placement. By affixing the NOM and CRT labels, you demonstrate that your product has been officially certified.

This means that the product meets Mexican technical safety, quality, and regulatory compliance standards. Unlabeled products or those with labeling issues will delay your import and marketing.

To avoid this issue, you can consult with Dimulti. Our team will help you ensure your device is properly labeled. Our team will also notify you when a certificate expires or needs to be renewed.

This way, you won’t have to worry about label requirements for Mexico type approval or certification expiration issues. This will ensure your RF type approval issues are resolved effectively and efficiently.

Obtaining a certificate is not the only requirement for telecommunications devices to be marketed and

[68
71,19,69,70,73
post-5150","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-mexico","tag-crt-certification","tag-label-requirements","tag-mexico","tag-mexico-type-approval","tag-nom-certification
["GET
