Never Pretends by Tovan: When Speaking to Silence Without Pretense

On Friday, October 31, 2025, Dimulti Music, a hip-hop producer, released its 22nd single, Never Pretends by Tovan Alldino.

Since early June, Tovan, as Co-Founder of Dimulti Music, has released 21st singles. Additionally, in the last week of October, Never Pretends by Tovan became the latest single.

Never Pretends by Tovan is the fourth single in Season 2. In this season, Tovan explores many sounds, starting with real drum sounds, guitar strumming, and sitar sounds.

The abundance of sounds in this song makes it more intense with slightly fluctuating dynamics. The slower parts seem to be the point where prayers and hopes begin to echo.

Never Pretends by Tovan

This song is about a conversation with God that turns into an unanswered and repetitive voice message. “This is not a song about losing faith. It's about what remains when faith forgets your name. Because maybe we never stop praying. We start whispering to the remnants of light,” wrote Tovan about Never Pretends.

“Empty room, my skin still hums from a ghost I knew // Mirror said my name, but it didn’t sound true”

The lyrics of Tovan's song “Never Pretend” open with an anxious atmosphere. This is depicted through space, trembling skin, and mirrors that reflect sound.

Tovan attempts to incorporate the hedonistic culture of the petro era into his lyrics. He also quotes extensively from sacred texts. The opening of this song is inspired by one such text, Chandogya Upanishad 8.7.1: “When the self sees the Self, it knows the truth.”

“I talk to silence like it’s an old friend // It never answers, but it never pretends // I talk to silence like it’s an old friend // It never answers, but it never pretends”

These lyrics are repeated like prayers being recited and questions that have not yet been answered. Not everything has to be answered; the most important thing is that there is no pretense in the conversation in silence.

“What if I died and never really left here? // What if the stars remember what I fear? // What if the moon was never meant to stay? // What if I begged, and love just walked away?”

This song raises many questions, some of which are in the verse above. These questions may also often arise from within yourself when talking to silence without pretense.

Questions about the end of days and many things in life always arise. That is what Tovan tries to convey in his songs in Season 2. He helps you remember the questions that you may not have found the answers to yet.

Never Pretends by Tovan

Tovan wants to invite listeners to dive into the layers of meaning of his lyrics. You can read into the meaning and then interpret for yourself by knowing the lyrics.

Empty room, my skin still hums from a ghost I knew

Mirror said my name, but it didn’t sound true

Half of me praying, half of me lying

Both of us pretending we weren’t dying

I talk to silence like it’s an old friend

It never answers, but it never pretends

I talk to silence like it’s an old friend

It never answers, but it never pretends

Clock’s still ticking, but time stopped calling

Faith feels cheap when your heaven’s falling

Love left fingerprints under my skin

Love left fingerprints under my skin

Guess even God leaves stains when He walks in

I talk to silence like it’s an old friend

It never answers, but it never pretends

I talk to silence like it’s an old friend

It never answers, but it never pretends

Never pretends

Never pretends

What if I died and never really left here?

What if the stars remember what I fear?

What if the moon was never meant to stay?

What if I begged, and love just walked away?

What if my soul’s a film that can’t rewind?

What if I see, but darkness keeps me blind?

What if the voice I hear is just my own?

What if we’re nothing, just echoes of unknown?

Some nights I dream I never woke

Some dreams I wake just to choke

If light is love, and love decays

Then I’m still holy in the wrongest ways

The paradox in Never Pretends by Tovan is that when humans find answers to questions about faith, it seems as if their voices are not heard correctly.

In the end, Never Pretends by Tovan is a reflection of uskeheningan becoming too noisy to ignore and the truth feeling too tired to shine. This song is perfect for a soundtrack when you want to reflect in silence. The music will take you on a journey to explore things you may not have thought about before.

Many instrumental sounds may delight your ears as you talk to yourself, from electronic to acoustic ones that will pamper your ears. So, I can't wait to get through this season full of surprises. What else will Tovan bring next week?
