How Long is the Validity Period of Yemen Type Approval Certificate

You need to understand the certificate’s validity period to determine how long a device can be marketed. In this case, you need to understand the validity period of Yemen type approval.

The certificate’s validity period is closely tied to the legality of marketing a device in a region. By understanding the validity period of Yemen type approval, you can estimate when a renewal will be required.

These criteria are established by the Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technology (MTIT). Please note that this authority is currently divided into two entities: MTIT Sana’a and MTIT Aden. Neither entity recognizes the other’s approvals. What about their validity periods? Are there any differences?

Do Differences in Authorities Affect the Validity Period?

Before understanding the validity period of Yemen type approval, you need to understand the challenges associated with certification applications because there are two authorities responsible.

These authorities are MTIT Sana’a and MTIT Aden. Both have different jurisdictions over the territories under their control due to the outbreak of war in 2015.

MTIT Sana’a is the authority whose jurisdiction covers the northern region and the capital, Sana’a. They operate under the Houthi government, which has been issuing type approval certifications for the past several years and continues to do so.

MTIT Aden is the authority whose jurisdiction covers Aden and other southern regions. It was only established in 2015, so it has never issued type approval certificates. In late December 2025 and early 2026, this authority began issuing its own certificates.

So far, there have been no significant differences between these two authorities, including regarding the validity period of certificates. There are only minor differences in the document requirements for Yemeni type approval.

Certificate Issuance Process

Before learning about the validity period of Yemen type approval, it is important to understand how certificates are issued. The MTIT certificate issuance process, whether in Sana’a or Aden, involves an evaluation of documents.

Certification involves documentation requirements that play a crucial role in the evaluation process.

1. Document requirements

The following is a list of documents required to apply for MTIT certification:

  1. Completed application form, signed and stamped by the applicant.
  2. Technical specifications (TCF) and test reports for Radio, EMC, and Safety in compliance with international/IEC or European standards.
  3. Declaration of Conformity (DoC), issued and signed by the manufacturer.
  4. User manual and schematic.
  5. Internal and external product photos.
  6. An authorization letter from the manufacturer or end client to Dimulti, signed and stamped.
  7. Authorization letter from Dimulti to the Yamani agency, signed and stamped.
  8. For renewal applications, please attach the previous certificate to be renewed.

MTIT in Sana’a and Aden have the same document requirements. However, please note that each authority has its own application form.

For MTIT Aden, there is a slight difference. It requires an additional document: a list of countries where the relevant equipment has been approved.

2. Document evaluation

Once the required documents are complete, we will submit them to the MTIT offices in Sana’a and Aden. These two authorities will evaluate the completeness and compliance of the documents we submit.

After review, the authorities will decide whether to accept or reject the documents. If the documents are accepted, the certificate will be issued immediately. If not, you will need to provide the missing documents for re-evaluation.

Please note that you may submit the documents simultaneously. This is related to the lead time for Yemen type approval

Submitting the documents to both authorities simultaneously will allow the certificates to be completed on the same date. This is because both have the same processing time for Yemen type approval applications.

3. Certificate issuance

When the Yemen type approval certificate is issued, it means your product has officially received permission to be marketed and used. The certificate issuance date becomes the effective date of the Yemen type approval certificate.

The following is an example of an MTIT certificate:

The time required for Yemen type approval through the document evaluation process is approximately four to eight weeks.

4. Labeling

There are two important things to note after the certificate is issued. The first is the validity period of the Yemen type approval, and the second is the labeling requirements.

The MTIT does not require labeling on all registered products, user manuals, or packaging before the products are sold. Yemen allows some flexibility in this regard.

However, MTIT Aden has only recently established a policy for certificate issuance. If there are any upcoming regulatory changes, we will provide further updates.

In some countries that do not require labeling, local importers often include the certification identification number. In Yemen, this is also not required.

Certified products can be imported and distributed for immediate sale.

Validity Period of Yemen Type Approval

Understanding the validity period of Yemen type approval is crucial for marketing your products. So, how long is this certificate valid?

The MTIT certificates issued in Sana’a and Aden have the same validity period. Both certificates are valid for two years. Therefore, as the expiration date approaches, you need to process the renewal.

That explains the validity period of Yemen type approval. You’ll avoid having illegal products circulating in the market if you understand the validity period and renewal process for this certificate.

If you’re having trouble understanding MTIT certification, you can consult with Dimulti. Our services will assist you from the local testing process through to the issuance of MTIT certificates in both Sana’a and Aden.
