Who can be an Applicant for RF Certification in Malaysia?
Eligibility to apply for RF certification in Malaysia is outlined in Document eTAC/DOC/01-1.1, Section 3.3. These regulations specify that applicants for SIRIM certification must be companies registered in Malaysia.
A company’s registration is evidenced by a valid registration number issued by the Malaysian Companies Commission (SSM). This registration number is either a Company Registration (ROC) or a Business Registration (ROB).
Companies applying for RF certification in Malaysia are divided into five categories: manufacturers, assemblers, importers, network operators or service providers, and authorized consultants.
- Manufacturer: A local company that assembles domestic telecommunications and wireless products.
- Assembler: A company that assembles products under a foreign brand may submit an application on behalf of the foreign manufacturer.
- Importer: A company responsible for handling customs and tax matters when bringing the brand owner’s products into Malaysia.
- Network Operator or Service Provider: A company that uses telecommunications equipment in its own operations.
- Authorized Consultant: A compliance agent that acts as a representative of a foreign company and manages the entire application process on behalf of that foreign brand.
Management representative
The next step after an applicant is confirmed is to appoint a Management Representative. This individual is responsible for all SIRIM certification applications.
The Management Representative will register the company on SIRIM’s online certification portal (e-ComM). They will automatically become the company’s account administrator.
Their responsibilities include managing users, consultants, and agents. The Management Representative will also serve as the point of contact between the company and SIRIM.
Certification Applicant Status
The applicant’s status is the first thing SIRIM will verify. Failing this stage will, of course, halt the process before it even begins.
If the applicant’s status does not align with what is described above, the application will be rejected. The most important factor at this stage is the consistency of the applicant’s name across all document requirements for RF certification in Malaysia.
It is common for test reports to list Company A, while Company B is mentioned in the brand declaration. Of course, this is not permitted and will result in the application being terminated.
