Obtaining RF certification in Indonesia is impossible without the required documents. Even a single incomplete document can result in your application being rejected.
Document requirements for RF certification in Indonesia are of the utmost importance, even before the testing process begins. There is a list of all required documents based on the chosen testing pathway, but this often becomes an issue.
The process of gathering documents is a challenge in itself. Some documents require a lengthy process to obtain, while others may be overlooked simply because applicants are unaware they are needed.
We’ll cover everything you need to know about the document requirements for RF certification in Indonesia for each application pathway. You can also watch the full video to ensure there are no mistakes in gathering your documents.
What is RF Certification in Indonesia?
Radio Frequency (RF) certification in Indonesia is known as the “DJID certificate.” DJID stands for “Directorate General of Digital Infrastructure.”
This agency falls under the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs, or KOMDIGI. It is responsible for testing, document evaluation, and certificate issuance.
DJID certification is a compliance requirement for manufacturers, importers, and distributors. It is a process of ensuring that telecommunications products meet the technical, compatibility, and safety standards established by Indonesian regulations.
DJID Certification Application Pathways
To apply for RF certification in Indonesia, you must choose one of the three available pathways. Each pathway has its own documentation requirements.
Here are the three available pathways for DJID certification:
- Local testing: A pathway that requires the product to be tested at a DJID-accredited laboratory in Indonesia.
- Document evaluation: A pathway without local testing, meaning you already have a test report from an international laboratory.
- Document Evaluation Based on RF Module Reports: A pathway similar to the administrative documentation pathway, but where some RF results do not meet DJID standards.
List of Document Requirements for RF Certification in Indonesia
The three available pathways have different document requirements. However, in general, each testing pathway requires the following documents:
- Product specifications with the model name
- Product photos
- Test reports (RF, EMC, Electrical Safety, Laser Safety, or SAR) from a DJID-registered lab
- PM 5 application form
- Declaration of Conformity
- MOU or Distributor Agreement
- Local representative information
Each different pathway will require several additional documents. You can watch the full video to learn more.
Local Testing
This is the most common and comprehensive pathway for applying for RF certification in Indonesia. In fact, this pathway is scheduled to become mandatory in 2027.
Local testing in Indonesia requires several tests. The types of tests will depend on your product type.
There are at least five tests available:
- Radio Frequency (RF)
- Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC)
- Electrical Safety
- Laser Safety
- Specific Absorption Rate (SAR)
In addition to the required documentation, the local testing process requires you to prepare several items before testing begins. The most well-known requirement is the test samples. You’ll need to submit at least two sets of samples. However, more may be required depending on the product specifications and the type of testing to be conducted.
In addition to the samples, you’ll also need to submit the testing SOP and software, the RF modulation type, and the antenna gain value in dBi before testing begins.
Document Evaluation
Document evaluation or paperwork for RF certification in Indonesia requires an additional document to be attached in addition to the seven listed above. This document is a letter of authorization from the report owner to your local representative.
This document serves as proof of authorization for the local representative to use the brand holder’s test report for DJID certification purposes.
In addition, there are two important points to note here. First, the laboratory must be registered or accredited by DJID. Second, the only applicable international reports are for RF, EMC, and Electrical Safety.
For products requiring Laser Safety or SAR testing, such testing must still be conducted locally in Indonesia.
Document Evaluation Based on RF Module Reports
Document evaluation based on RF module reports is commonly used for household appliances. This is because other countries may only test for spurious emissions. In Indonesia, however, products must meet four parameters: frequency range, output power, bandwidth, and spurious emissions.
This pathway requires retesting in an Indonesian laboratory for the RF modules contained within the product. Although this pathway is rarely used, it is still important to understand it, as it requires the preparation of numerous additional documents.
The additional documentation required includes:
- Block diagrams and schematics of the RF module
- Product photos
- Module photos
- Photos of the module installed in the product
Verifiers use these documents to ensure that the tested module matches the one installed in the product and that the testing was conducted in accordance with regulations.
