Do telecommunications products for Indonesia need to be tested? That is one of the most frequently asked questions regarding RF certification in Indonesia.

Local testing is one of the pathways available for applying for DJID certification. There are several factors to consider along this pathway, including the type of testing, parameters, and qualified laboratories.

In this article, we’ll cover everything you need to know about local testing for RF certification in Indonesia. You can also watch the full video to learn the requirements in detail.

What Is Local Testing?

To apply for RF certification in Indonesia, there are several options: local testing, paperwork, and partial paperwork. However, local testing is the most comprehensive and recommended route.

Choosing the local testing route means conducting testing at an accredited laboratory in Indonesia. At the same time, you’ll need to submit samples for testing.

Local testing is conducted to ensure your telecommunications devices comply with Indonesia’s specific regulations. This refers to standards for frequency usage, power levels, and permitted emissions.

Types of Tests

In Indonesia, there are five types of testing in effect: Radio Frequency (RF), Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC), Electrical Safety, Laser Safety, and Specific Absorption Rate.

RF testing is intended for all products with wireless features.

EMC testing is conducted to ensure that a device does not interfere with other devices.

Electrical Safety testing is required specifically for products powered directly by AC power.

Laser Safety testing is intended for devices that emit laser signals.

SAR testing is required specifically for devices worn on or used near the body.

Not every product will require all of these tests. The types of testing performed will depend on the product type and its features.

Sample Requirements

Applicants for RF certification in Indonesia must submit samples for testing purposes. The type of testing and the product’s features will determine the sample requirements.

In general, two types of samples are required for local testing for RF certification in Indonesia.

The first is a conducted sample. This is a device that requires a specific configuration to emit radio frequencies. All products with RF features must meet this requirement.

The second is a radiated sample. This is a device that emits radio frequencies directly when powered on. This sample will be used for low-frequency RF testing, EMC testing, electrical safety testing, and laser safety testing.

Testing Parameters

Testing will be based on technical standards established by DJID. Specifically for RF testing, there are four parameters that will be evaluated: frequency range, output power, bandwidth, and spurious emissions.

  • Frequency Range: The spectrum of frequencies generated by the device.
  • Output Power: The transmission power when the device is active.
  • Bandwidth: The data transmission rate.
  • Spurious Emissions: Unwanted radio frequency emissions generated by your device.

These parameters will determine whether the device passes or fails the test. The RF test will be considered a failure if any one of these parameters is not met.

Laboratory Requirements

To conduct testing in Indonesia, the DJID has established 10 registered and accredited laboratories. These laboratories are located in several cities across the island of Java.

Jakarta

  • PT. Hyundai Calibration and Certification Technologies Indonesia
  • Laboratorium PT. TUV Rheinland Indonesia
  • Laboratorium Pengujian PT. Bureau Veritas Consumer Products Services
  • Balai Besar Pengujian Perangkat Telekomunikasi (BBPPT), Direktorat Jenderal Sumber Daya dan Perangkat Pos dan Informatika

Tangerang

  • Laboratorium Penguji PT. Qualis Indonesia

Bekasi

  • Laboratorium Sentral Operasi Cibitung PT. Sucofindo (Persero)

Bandung

  • Laboratorium Elektronika dan EMC Balai Besar Bahan dan Barang Teknik (B4T)

Kudus

  • Laboratorium Penguji PT. Hartono Istana Teknologi, Sub Lab Electronic & RF

Surabaya

  • Balai Standardisasi dan Pelayanan Jasa Industri (BSPJI)

It should be noted that each laboratory has its own scope of testing. Therefore, a single device may be tested at more than one laboratory.

Things to Note

The Indonesian government is currently in a transitional planning phase to mandate local testing. This transition will last until December 2026.

By 2027, local testing for RF certification in Indonesia is expected to be the only accepted pathway. Therefore, you need to start preparing for this transition now.
