Documents aren’t the only thing you need to focus on when applying for RF certification in Indonesia. There’s another important consideration: sample requirements.
This is especially crucial for those of you who choose the local testing route. Errors in meeting the sample requirements for RF certification in Indonesia will not only delay your certification process but also increase costs.
You’ll need to submit new samples and undergo retesting. Therefore, it’s important to understand the sample requirements for RF certification in Indonesia. You can also watch the full video to learn the requirements in detail.
What is a Test Sample?
Local testing for RF certification in Indonesia requires you to submit a test sample. This is the actual physical device that will be tested at a DJID-accredited laboratory.
The sample submitted must be the final product as it will be sold on the market. If the product is a refrigerator, the sample must be that refrigerator. You cannot simply submit an RF module or a PCB board.
Types of Testing
Sample requirements for RF certification in Indonesia will be needed for certain types of testing. There are five types of testing available.
The product’s specifications and features will determine the type of testing. The following are the five types of testing available in Indonesia:
- Radio Frequency (RF): To evaluate wireless signal transmission.
- Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC): To ensure the device does not interfere with other devices.
- Electrical Safety: To verify that the device is safe to use.
- Laser Safety: For devices that emit laser signals.
- Specific Absorption Rate (SAR): To evaluate human exposure to radio frequency energy, specifically for cell phones and tablets.
In summary, RF, EMC, and Electrical Safety testing will be mandatory for most products. On the other hand, Laser Safety and SAR testing depend on the product’s functions.
Sample requirements for RF certification in Indonesia
When discussing sample requirements for RF certification in Indonesia, the issue of the required number and condition of samples cannot be overlooked. In short, this will depend on the type of testing and the device’s features.
The RF samples submitted must also be labeled with the product name, model name, brand name, country of origin, and serial number. In addition to the samples, the testing SOP and software must also be submitted for testing purposes.
How many samples do you need?
Generally, two samples are required for RF certification in Indonesia for at least three types of testing. RF testing requires one sample, while EMC and electrical safety testing also require one sample each.
This number may increase if the product has multiple functions or technologies, which may necessitate additional types of testing. These would include tests such as laser safety or SAR testing.
Sample condition
Of the two types of sample requirements for RF certification in Indonesia, at least two specific testing modes are required: one sample in either the conducted mode or the radiated mode, and one normal sample.
For RF testing
RF testing requires at least either the conducted mode or the radiated mode. The choice depends on the product being tested.
The conducted mode applies to products that require a specific configuration to transmit radio frequencies. Examples include products such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and RFID operating at 920–923 MHz, as well as cellular devices, LPWA, and IoT devices.
These samples must be equipped with an SMA connector. The conduction sample will be tested using a spectrum analyzer and software to verify that radio frequency emissions on a single channel are in the form of modulated waves.
Radiation mode applies to low-power products with a transmission power of less than 10 mW. Examples include products such as NFC, RFID at 13.56 MHz, SRD at 125 and 134 kHz, Low Power 433 MHz, and radar devices at 24 and 77 GHz.
This sample does not require a special connector because it will emit radio frequencies as soon as it is turned on.
For EMC and Electrical Safety
EMC and electrical safety require normal samples. These are samples of the finished product as it will be sold. These samples also do not require special connectors.
For Laser Safety and SAR
Laser safety and SAR require normal samples, just as required for EMC and electrical safety. However, for laser safety testing, you also need to include an SFP transceiver module in the shipment. SAR testing, on the other hand, is only required for cell phones and tablets.
